All the information about Newfoundlands!

A brave and working companion, Newfoundland is an adorable dog breed. It has a docile temperament and loves to spend time with children. These things make the dog an excellent family dog.

They love to be couch potatoes inside the home, hence, if you are looking for a dog that will love to cuddle and spend time with you, then this is the one. They are perfect for children, and other small animals. If you own a cat, then this breed will get along with your feline just fine.

One thing about them is that they do shed a lot of hair. Their coat is long, so shedding will be an issue. This is why you will have to groom them on a daily basis. Due to the giant size, newfoundlands can face multiple health issues. This is another factor you need to put into consideration before bringing a pup home.

To ensure that they don’t panic in new situations, you need to expose them to socialization from an early age. There are a few things you can do to help with this. When adopting, or purchasing, make sure the breeder raises pups at home. This will give you a good start and teaching socialization won’t be as tough.

Training is essential and it should be started as soon as you bring your dog home. To train them, use the reward-based method. When your dog does what you want it to do, reward it with a treat. They love to learn. To train your dog to water rescue or swim, start off by making them play in the water but supervise them.

Newfoundlands are devoted to their humans. They are loyal. When it comes to the weather, they are okay with cold weather but during the hot weather, keep them inside so they don’t get too hot.
