Why you should never self-treat your dog!

When your dog starts to get sick or shows just mild symptoms of illnesses, it is easy to skip the vet and turn to the internet for advice – or yourself! But, this could potentially put your little furry friend at risk of a bigger, more complicated health issue.

As there is endless pet care advice on the internet that is absolutely free of cost and you can access it from the comfort of your home, it may sound convenient to just google your pet’s symptoms and treat them accordingly.

However, don’t let laziness get the best of you. If your dog is showing changes in behavior, do not overlook them. Take your pup to a vet as soon as you can, this will prevent the disease from aggravating and turning into something serious in the future.

Home-treating your dog

Home treating your dog is not suggested. This is because we lack the proper medical knowledge needed to diagnose our dog and give it medicine.

Not all human medications are suitable for dogs, some of them are. Hence, it is not advised that you give your dog medicine by yourself without consulting a professional doctor. If the wrong medicine is given, it could cause other health issues.

Another problem is that we cannot properly identify the illness of our pets since we don’t have any experience with it. The article you looked at or the friend you consulted may have experienced the same symptoms but it isn’t necessary that it is the same illness.

This can complicate things as you may be giving your dog medicines that are prescribed for some other disease when it has something else. If the actual problem remains unattended and is not treated for a long time, it could lead to serious health complications.

It is best advised that you visit a vet if your dog is showing changes in behavior to prevent future problems.
